I am offended, disgusted and humiliated as a man, as a citizen of the world, as a person of learning, to learn that Zelensky is about to be invited to give a lecture even at the Oscars, after having done so in the various NATO parliaments that count, like a successful rock star; as well as to read that Biden is also on tour in Europe and continues, rightly or wrongly, to offend Putin, who in any case represents a people and does not act in his own name. The president of a state should never be offended, because by offending him, one offends the people he represents. Finally, I feel offended, disgusted and humiliated by Putin who, unfortunately imitating what has been done for at least a century now, bombs civilians, which is of a shameful ethical baseness.
Similarly, I feel offended, disgusted and humiliated by my government which, instead of rising to a third position of mediation, takes a stand for one of the warring parties. The same can be said for the unjustifiable behaviour of the European Union, which tolerates all this happening on its own soil, also failing to have that detachment and equidistance that can then qualify it as super partes.
I can only conclude that what is happening, from the point of view of the philosophy of politics, is the end of politics. This discipline and activity is clearly no longer capable of handling the contradictions, giants, of the century, of the millennium. The real opposition on the horizon is not between democracy and autocracy, as what is happening is being sold, but between the barbarity of politics as a whole, regardless of ideologies, and the common feeling of the people, who have every right to be disgusted by what is happening.
While gigantic problems like the environmental crisis threaten the lives of our children, all politics can do is think about war and arming states. That money would be used for the environment, to fight the pandemic and for other civilised purposes, not uncivilised ones such as a war, which never has rational reasons and ethical justifications. Every war could have been avoided and if it was not, it is only because politics failed in its main task, which is to keep the peace. There is no such thing as a guilty state, there is only politics that is incapable of managing diplomatic relations for the supreme good, peace. War is always the defeat of politics.
All this in a country, Ukraine, certainly full of nuclear power plants and probably also full of biological laboratories, where therefore the catastrophic accident under these conditions of total abandonment to war could happen at any moment. If it has not happened yet, we can consider it a miracle.
Science, philosophy, religion have abundantly taken a stand against this clear failure of politics. It is only to be hoped that the people have learnt from this lesson and for the future will distance themselves from any political ideology and any political party among those that exist. There is not a single one that in this chaos of total incivility has managed to save face, to express a civilised idea.
What is needed is a profound world-wide ethical and philosophical revolution, fighting every ideology and every existing political party, to replace the government of ideologies with the government of science and knowledge, in a word, wisdom. Plato 2500 years ago had it all figured out, he had foreseen that humanity would come to this end.
Ideologies, whether self-styled democratic or openly autocratic, only bring death and destruction to civilians, to the people. At least 100 years of history prove this, if not more. Today it is happening there, in a distant country, but tomorrow it could be (again) with us, No country is safe from the shameful and cruel hubris of ideology, of any ideology.
The lesson of all that is happening is only one: political ideologies will lead humanity to self-destruction. Today it is Russia and Ukraine-West, yesterday it was Germany-West, tomorrow it will be the turn of the West against China and North Korea, in what will probably be the final clash of ideologies, and it will certainly be a nuclear clash, it is useless to delude ourselves.  But perhaps we can still avoid it, if we listen to Plato: https://iep.utm.edu/platopol/https://iep.utm.edu/platopol/
